Where is Tjaynera Falls (Sandy Creek Falls)?

Tjaynera Falls is located on the Reynolds River 4WD track in Litchfield National Park and is relatively close to Blyth Homestead. It is about 144 kilometres south of Darwin, which is a 1-hour and 50-minute drive to the site. If you’re travelling from Darwin, take the A15 to B34, then take the B30 to the 4WD Litchfield Daly Railroad Road in Litchfield National Park to the site.

From the car park, it is a 45-minute hike to Tjaynera Falls, an area with a beautiful waterfall and a plunge pool for guests to relax and cool off in. The hike is about 1.7km each way (a 3.4 km round trip) and is a Grade 3 moderate hike. The track is often steep and rocky at the end, but so worth it for the views. The trail leads you through an open valley lined with paperbark trees, but it is important to bring sunscreen and wear a hat to stay comfortable!

The actual waterfall and plunge pool are accessible from the car park by a 1.7km (45-minute) easy to moderate hike. There is no disabled access provided. Litchfield National Park has free entry, so Tjaynera Falls is free to the public and to spend time in.

You can find toilets, showers, campgrounds, a picnic area (caravan-friendly), wood-fired barbecues, and a car park at the site.

Camping at Tjaynera Falls is a popular choice for those looking to relax and explore the area over a couple of days. Staying overnight also gives visitors a chance to enjoy the site early in the morning or later in the evening, when it’s most peaceful and wildlife is more active.
